I’m Keila the founder of this passion-project born out of a love for nalbinding and Viking history. I’m on a mission to revive the rich history of nalbinding, offering immersive workshops, creating learning resources that breathe life into this centuries-old craft as well as crafting woolly nalbound accessories for the reenactment community and beyond.
Nalbinding is an ancient textile craft that predates knitting and crochet. Using a single needle, nalbinding creates a distinctive, tightly-woven fabric through the interlocking of loops. Nalbinding's roots extend across various cultures dating back to 6500bc.
Kaupeyrir is more than just a business - it’s my passion! It began with a fascination for Viking history, and through reenactment I discovered Nalbinding. Having spent years striving to master this craft, I wanted to make it more accessible to a wider audience.
Craftsmanship Mastery: Every nalbinding piece reflects my deep commitment to mastering this centuries-old craft, preserving its authenticity and charm.
Nalbinding Workshops: My workshops are designed to take you on a journey through the stitches and stories of nalbinding. The hands-on sessions promise not just learning a technique but an understanding of the craft's historical roots.
Learning Resources: To make nalbinding accessible to all, I’ve developed illustrated learning resources, guides and patterns. Learn nalbinding at your own pace, armed with the knowledge to create your own piece of history.
My commitment is to infuse every piece, workshop and resource with the same passion that sparked my love for nalbinding. I believe in making this ancient craft approachable, enjoyable, and a source of inspiration for individuals seeking a connection to tradition.
My vision for Kaupeyrir extends beyond workshops and resources. I aspire to see nalbinding embraced in the same way as knitting and crochet, woven into the fabric of communities. The journey is ongoing, and I invite you to be a part of
