My sister and I can’t thank Michael and his family enough. He identified our ‘old carpet’ as a handmade Afghan rug circa 1840/60, which fits in with it having belonged to our great-grandparents in Holland. Though inevitably faded, Jacoby’s cleaning and repair process has restored it to a near new condition. He also cleaned and refringed some slightly younger Afghan rugs and a Chinese silk carpet, all handed down in the family. So we have memories and beautiful rugs restored.
Michael is so knowledgeable about the history and construction of these rugs, and it was lovely to meet his family who took a day out together to deliver to Inverness and Aberdeen.
I have just read some of the other reviews about this company and agree with every word. Luckily Michael is planning to have his children take over the business in the future – which may be some time off as they are currently 2 and 4.

Found Jacoby Rugs online and basically took a punt – so glad we did. Michael took our two very old rugs for their first clean in 60 years. One (the Kashan) was covered in mould having been stored for years and the other (the Isfahan) had endured a hard life in front of my parents’ open fire and then our log burner. They were definitely not looking their best! Both rugs looked spectacular after cleaning and the repairs to the edges of one are, to my eye, completely undetectable. We thoroughly recommend Michael and all the highly skilled crafts-people at Jacoby Rugs to take care of old and valuable rugs. They’re in very safe hands.

Jacoby Rugs cleaned our handmade woollen Morroccan rug. It’s an exceptionally colourful rug and huge too. I had tried to clean it myself but it made little difference. We have an open fire, a cat and a 6 year old so the rug had got pretty filthy. I wasn’t optimistic. It’s not cheap to get a rug of this nature cleaned but when you hear the techniques used you can totally understand the cost. Well it was WORTH EVERY PENNY when we got the rug back and it looked COMPLETELY NEW. I was astonished. Considering the uniqueness of this type of rug (impossible to replace) and the cost of replacement, the cost of cleaning is totally worth it. I felt like the rug was brand new again and I would thoroughly recommend making the investment to see a much loved, much used rug rejuvinated. Very happy indeed.

We are delighted with the repairs to and cleaning of our two old and dirty rugs, both of which were in need of repair, one particularly so. I wanted to restore life into the rugs which I had originally belonged to my grandparents, so I am very attached to them. Michael was most helpful in advising what could be done to them, giving costing details and keeping me updated as to progress. The repairs have been done really well: you would hardly know that they had been repaired! They were returned to us looking amazing and fully rejuvenated. When my mother died I kept five of her Qashqai rugs collected by her father. They were suffering from decades of dirt and wear and the earlier attempts to repair extensive damage done to one of them during the Clydebank blitz, was un ravelling. Michael gave an estimate of what could be done based on my photos and arranged for collection. Once he had the rugs, more accurate estimates of what could be done and the costs and timings were given. I am delighted with the results. The colours are refreshed and the carpets are refringed and the edges rebound., they look great. Michael kept me informed throughout and explained the badly damaged rug would require more work resulting in a time delay but with no change in the financial estimate.

Thanks Michael. A great job. You managed to restore our Turkish rug which had been damaged by a local cleaner. They left it wet in their warehouse and returned it with black mould in the centre of the rolled carpet. It smelt awful. Jacoby have fully restored it to it’s original condition. Well done

We were advised by one ‘specialist’ cleaning company that our badly stained 30 year old Nepalese Sherpa rug had only a 5-10% chance of being cleaned successfully. We then contacted Jacoby Rugs and Michael was confident that they could remove the stains and clean the rug. The end result far exceeded our expectations, the stains have been removed and the rug has been completely rejuvenated with colours back to original and the finish/handle is fantastic. We had our silk rug repaired and cleaned after being damaged by mice and the rug is now as good as new!

The quality of the repair to our badly damaged Kachan rug is astounding. Although a large corner (50 cm x 80 cm) was completely destroyed by putrefaction, neither my wife, nor my son, nor myself were able to tell which corner was the one which had been repaired! Jacoby Rugs’s quotation was approximately half the price quoted by leading London specialists, so I was apprehensive as to the quality of the result. Having witnessed a return of our rug to the original in colour, drawing and texture, I can heartily recommend Michael Jacoby’s firm and suggest that anyone interested in a repair request the photographs of our rug “before and after”! And the work was completed a few days ahead of schedule.

I was very fortunate to find a beautiful Kashan tree of life rug c1900 in an auction and buy it very well. It was dirty and needed securing along one edge. I contacted Jacoby rugs and took it to the offices in Selkirk which is only 20 miles away. It was obvious that Michael knew exactly what he was talking about and I had absolute faith in him. As an antique dealer of 35 years I know how many so called experts there are so it was a delight to come across this company. I knew it was a good rug and couldn’t believe my luck in buying it! When Michael rolled it out on the floor it took my breath away. I still find myself, a bit of an old cynic, standing looking at it with a big grin on my face! The moral of this is, if you have something of quality always look after it by using the best professional people like Jacoby Rugs. Remember that we are only custodians of fine things and have a duty to care for them. ‘All was others,all will be others.’

Jacoby Rugs have done wonders for my 20 year old Turkish rug.The washing has left as clean as new and very soft.They removed the damaged fringing and reworked it from the fabric of the rug.I am very pleased with all aspects of work.

So very glad we chose Jacoby Rugs Ltd to clean and repair our Indian wool rug. The item is about six years old and was starting to look a bit dull. Booking process was very simple. We were given two quotes – 1 for wool; 2nd for silk.
An appointment for collection was booked. When the representative of the company attended , he pointed out some minor damage in the one of the corners we hadn’t noticed. An email was sent quoting for this repair.
Throughout we were updated by email. An appointment to return was arranged and our rug was returned.
My wife and I are very happy to have our rug back, looking as good as new.
