Diamond Awl Leather Workshop was established over ten years ago and is one of the leading providers of traditional leatherwork courses in the UK.
Courses range from one day, two-day, three day and four-day courses, where students learn foundation to advanced skills and work under the expert guidance of founder Jason Stocks-Young. Students work with high quality vegetable tanned leather and learn traditional techniques to make a variety of leather accessories from card holders and notebook covers to small and medium sized leather bags.
Diamond Awl also run bespoke and offsite courses and have collaborated with a varied range of organisations and events including Liverpool John Moore’s University (BA Hons Fashion Design students), RHS Chatsworth, The Ruskin at Lancaster Castle and The Festival of Making in Blackburn. Diamond Awl recently delivered a five-day bag making programme
funded by the Social Development Bank in Riyadh in Saudi Arabia and have worked with Société Générale to deliver a workshop as part of a corporate entertaining day
Jason learnt his craft from a traditional saddle-maker and was immediately drawn to the artistry and precision that went into each piece of leather.
His passion for traditional leatherwork is recognised through his television work, which includes the BBC2 series Made in Great Britain, which celebrated the rich manufacturing in the UK, and The Saved and Remade Workshop currently on Discovery. He is a Founder Member of the Equity Advisory Council (EAC) which is part of the Crafts Council. The purpose of the EAC is to champion the voices of makers from marginalised backgrounds in the UK.
